News and Events
The Institute has achieved significant milestones and accomplishments. These include:
- Received initial $500,000 grant from PA Department of Health as seed funds to establish the Institute, its Academy and programs.
- Established the Institute as a working partnership with the School District of Philadelphia, the City of Philadelphia and leading public and private stakeholders in the Greater Philadelphia Area.
- Established the Institute’s Advisory Board consisting of members representing leading educational, industry and government stakeholders in the Greater Philadelphia area.
- Launched the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Academy and programs including the Biomedical Scholars Program and the Biotechnology and Life Sciences Career Academy.
- Initiated the development of a Bio-Apprenticeship program through partnership with the School District of Philadelphia and Community College of Philadelphia that will provide access to entry level career opportunities for high school graduates and young adults in Philadelphia.
